20081031 – The Friday Five

The Friday Five

I didn’t like this week’s Friday Five, so I’m going to answer one of the older ones.

1. Who is your favourite author?

Not sure if I have a single favourite author, but in the past I’ve enjoyed the works of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Timothy Zahn, and lately I’ve been reading Terry Goodkind’sSword Of Truth” series. I’m on the tenth book and will probably start the last one of the series tomorrow.

2. What is your favourite book/series?

Hands down, the “Sword Of Truth” series. I’ve never been one for fantasy books, but this series has been amazing. Owen introduced it to me. Also, a television series is being made of it. Should start soon.

3. Who is a book hero you most wish to be like?

First Wizard Barracus. He’s a character referenced in the “Sword Of Truth” series, but is one from the story’s past, during a great war that took place three thousand years before. From what the main characters of the series learned of him, he is quite noble, and responsible for a great many things.

4. Who is a book character that you envy?

Richard from the “Sword Of Truth” series. He is thrust into a world of magic that he didn’t know even existed, and yet, he was destined to play a central role in all that occurs. It is a constant struggle for him, which is unfortunate, but he always manages to to pull through, and comes out better for it.

5. Which book do you wished you lived in?

The first book of the “Sword Of Truth” series, entitled “Wizard’s First Rule”. I love the world that Terry Goodkind has put together, and this was in the beginning of the series before all hell breaks loose. I want to be a wizard.   :-)

I guess I REALLY like the “Sword Of Truth” series… could you tell…?   :-D

Where is your poppy?

Daily Shots

Do you have your poppy yet? If not, then please speak with one of the fine fellows in uniform that you may have seen around the city as of late. While you’re at it, why not thank them for their sacrifices and the horrors they endured which provided the freedom you currently enjoy, and that some in this world take for granted? A donation goes a very long way.

Lest we forget.

Obama / McCain dance off…

From the mind of Evan Roberts
obama-mccain-dance-off

This is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in the last little bit. They super-imposed the moving faces of Obama, McCain, and Palin (a surprise guest) over the dancers as they do their thing, and for the most part, it’s really quite impressive. Check it out:

Someone had a lot of time on their hands.    ;-)

Thanks to McLeod for bringing this to my attention!

20081024 – The Friday Five

The Friday Five

Yeah, I’m back-dating this as I’m actually posting this on Tuesday Oct 28th, but I want to keep in the swing of things. Missed posting on Friday with good reason.

When did you last…

1. scrounge for change (couch, ashtray, etc) to make a purchase?

Well, I recently counted out all the change I had so I could put it on my VISA, so I guess that counts. I just barely found enough quarters to finish off a roll, and also the same for the roll of toonies I deposited.

2. visit a dentist?

Just over six months ago. Have an appointment next week.

3. make a needed change to your life?

Again, just over six months ago. It’s when I decided to start eating better and exercising more. The last few months I’ve been hovering between 170-175lbs, so that’s anywhere from 25-30lbs lost. Not bad, but I think I can do better.

4. decide on a complete menu well in advance of the evening meal?

I’m not sure if this means that I decided on what I was going to cook, or just a generic plan of what I wanted to eat for dinner. But, I always have a good idea of what I plan to eat later on in the day. Even if I’m not hungry, I have an idea of what I can have should I get peckish.

5. spend part of the day (other than daily hygiene) totally/mostly naked?

What kind of a question is that!? The first thing I would think of if a friend answered this question is “Eww… did he sit on the couch naked?!”, and never sit on the damn thing again.

Now THAT’S a pumpkin carving!

Interesting Images
now-thats-a-pumpkin-carving

This has got to be the BEST pumpkin carving I have ever seen:

Sure, there are the odd good ones, like a pumpkin barfing out his insides, or other highly detailed carvings, but those generally are carved with the idea of letting the light out through the carving. This is the first one I’ve seen where the pumpkin was carved as if it was a block of ice or rock… and the detail on this thing is outstanding!

Now, before anyone comments about it, yes, I am aware that the mouth resembles a part of the female anatomy… and no, I’m not talking about the fangs.   ;-)
