I will admit, I was never hardcore into comics. I know the basics of the more popular characters in the Marvel and DC comic universes, but when you start talking about Earth-Two and other things of that nature, I either start to get confused, or lose interest all together.
However, one of my favourite comic series has always been Batman. Love it. Not the 1960s version of Batman where you have two dudes in spandex running around fighting villians that are complete morons… no… I like the gritty Batman stories, the dark Batman stories. The ones that deal with true good and evil. Where the Joker just doesn’t tell petty jokes and laugh all the time… the stories where he is a man who has lost his mind, yet is intelligent, and one of the most dangerous men on the planet. The real reason Batman is around.
Anyway, if you haven’t guessed, the Joker is my all time favourite comic book villian. He just looks bad-ass, and while I don’t suffer from coulrophobia, when portrayed in his true insanity, I can easily understand why someone might. I was completely in awe with Heath Ledger’s performance in “The Dark Knight“, and totally believe he deserved that Oscar. He really brought a glimpse of the Joker to the big screen.
While checking out Facebook for the first time in ages last night, I came across an image of the Joker that I thought was awesome. It took a bit of searching, but I eventually found a higher-res version of it, and also who the artist was. Some dude named Filipe Lopes in Brazil put this together, and just thought I’d share it with all of you. Not everyone will like it, I know, but I think it is quite well done, and shows some of the evil in the Joker’s character.
Well done, Filipe.
